Welding Inspector (Oil and Gas)

As a Welding Inspector in the oil and gas industry, you will oversee and ensure the quality of welding activities to maintain structural integrity and safety standards in construction projects. Leveraging your expertise, you will conduct inspections, enforce welding procedures, and verify compliance with codes and specifications. Your role is critical in upholding the quality and reliability of welding operations across various project phases.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections and quality assessments of welding activities in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.

  • Verify welding procedures, materials, and equipment used for compliance with approved specifications and regulatory requirements.

  • Interpret and enforce welding codes and standards such as ASME, API, and AWS to ensure adherence to quality and safety protocols.

  • Monitor and evaluate welder qualifications and performance to maintain consistent quality in welding operations.

  • Collaborate with engineering and construction teams to resolve welding-related issues and ensure project deadlines are met.

  • Prepare detailed inspection reports documenting weld quality, non-conformances, and corrective actions taken.

  • Conduct visual, dimensional, and non-destructive testing (NDT) as required to assess weld quality and integrity.

  • Participate in weld procedure qualification and welding performance qualification tests as part of project quality assurance.

  • Provide guidance and technical support to welding personnel regarding proper techniques, procedures, and safety practices.

  • Stay updated on industry advancements, welding technologies, and regulatory changes to enhance inspection methodologies and practices.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; certification as a Welding Inspector (CWI, CSWIP, or equivalent) preferred.

  • 7-8 years of experience in welding inspection within the oil and gas industry, with a strong understanding of welding processes and procedures.

  • 7-8 years of experience in welding inspection within the oil and gas industry, including experience in the GCC region, demonstrating knowledge of local industry practices and standards. 

  • Proficiency in interpreting welding symbols, blueprints, and technical drawings.

  • Thorough knowledge of welding codes and standards (e.g., ASME Sec. IX, API 1104, AWS D1.1) and their application in construction projects.

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills for accurate inspection and assessment of weld quality.

  • Effective communication skills for interacting with project stakeholders and reporting inspection findings.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

  • Flexibility to work in various environments and adapt to changing project requirements.

  • Fluency in English; proficiency in additional languages, especially Arabic, is beneficial.
